For those involved in inclusive soccer (football) it’s hard to ignore the rapid growth of Frame Football on the other side of the pond. Frame Football started at Coundon Court FC in 2013 as a pilot project and has grown rapidly to include a range of athletes with different needs. The Frame Football format is played as a small-sided game that has grown to include programs at Crystal Palace FC, Newcastle United Foundation and Chadderton Park FC to mention but a few. 2016 saw this growth culminate in 3 competitions held at St. Georges Park, The Football Association headquarters in England while rapid growth north of the border in Scotland saw the Scottish FA play and active role in supporting the inaugural Partick Thistle program.
The undeniable enthusiasm and fun shown by the kids involved made it a natural program to offer here in Canada. If you use walking/gait training equipment such as a Frame or Walker then this sport is for you.
Cerebral Palsy Sport in the UK have designed, developed and trialled Frame Football with lots of feedback from coaches, equipment specialists, physiotherapists, parents and the players themselves to create a truly player centred football opportunity. Supported by the Football Association’s Disability Committee as a grassroots development programme, Frame Football is already gaining recognition as an inclusive Adapted Sport.

Powerchair Football – Ontario Launch Sessions

Powerchair Football is played between 4 players on each side. Powerchairs must have four wheels with a maximum speed of 10km/h. Teams compete to score by pushing a ball, 13 inches in diameter, between two posts, 1.2 metres high. Powerchairs must have a foot guard made of unbreakable material and be attached solidly to the frame of the powerchair. In general, it has 2 control bars with a shooting bar in the middle. It is positioned no lower than 5cm from the floor and no higher than 45cm DIAGRAM
Canada is actually one of the founding nations of the Federation Internationale de Powerchair Football Associations (FIPFA) with activity recorded as far back as 1979. Canada finished 6th at the 2011 World Cup in Paris.
